Carducci plugs the LAFMS

on Sat, 09/25/2010 - 20:57

Taken from Joe Carducci's blog, "The New Vulgate: a new low in topical enlightenment". Carduccis is the author of "Rock and the Pop Narcotic" and "Enter Naomi", two must read books on music:

"The Wire's new issue includes a feature on the L.A.F.M.S. -- a group of groups and artists who tend to be ignored for all their ambition and their too-early recording and releasing of records for the usual wrongo history-of temporal narratives. If they’d been in NYC it would’ve been as if some kind of Beefheartian no-wave predated punk; and if they’d been in London it would’ve been as if Pub rock had been made up instead of bands like The Desperate Bicycles or Etron fou Le Loublan. This article and the show at Beaconsfield won’t dent history’s chrome-dome though."

Tom Recchion featured in "TAPS: Improvisations with Paul Burwell" in London

on Thu, 09/16/2010 - 20:54

Tom Recchion is currently featured in TAPS: Improvisations with Paul Burwell, a program on the hugely influential and recently deceased UK improviser and instrument builder.  Along with the almost 80 other artists, Recchion is "very honored to be part of this show and would like LAFMS fans to know it's out there."  Some of the featured artists include Steve Beresford, Borbetomagus: Don Dietrich, Donald Miller & Jim Sauter, Mike Cooper, Lol Coxhill, Peter Cusack, Max Eastley, Paul McCarthy, Hugh Metcalfe, Evan Parker, Brian Routh aka Harry Kipper, Elliott Sharp, David Toop, Toy Killers, Richard Wilson with William Raban & David Cunningham, and z’ev, among many others.

Paul Burwell was infamous for his exuberant fusions of fine-art installation, percussion and explosive performance. He was a staunch advocate of, and passionate participant in, all forms of experimental art. TAPS: Improvisations with Paul Burwell, embodies his prolific practice.

Over the course of three days TAPS will combine film, installation and performance, portraying layers of interpretation from more than 80 invited collaborators, in response to Burwell’s poem 'Adventures in the House of Memory'.
